As the caption says, this picture shows Earl Roberts as a lieutenant in the Bengal Artillery - and looking remarkably like an Indian. He would have been 19 or 20 at the time, as he was born (in Kanpur) in 1832 and took up his commission in December 1851. The picture is from "The Life and Deeds of Earl Roberts", by J.
